His co-author is Robert Austin, US Representative of FIZ Karlsruhe. This paper will deal with the genesis of USGENE from initial concept, launch on STN and subsequent evolution into an in-house subscription database. Details of the content and utility of USGENE will also be explored. Information professionals are always in need of new tools and databases to help them do their jobs faster, better, and at less cost to their employer. As described in a recent edition of ONLINE magazine (http://www.infotoday.com/online/nov08/Sabroski.shtml or PDF), USGENE was created to help meet this need for patent sequence searchers, by providing a unified, timely and comprehensive USPTO patent sequence database. Patent Sequence Location (PSL) is now available in USGENE October 7, 2008 SequenceBase Corporation has now incorporated a Patent Sequence Location (PSL) field in the USGENE database supplied to our in-house subscription customers.
USGENE® is our ground-breaking resource for life-science intellectual property professionals, providing unrivaled searchable access to all available peptide and nucleotide sequences from the published applications and issued patents of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
USGENE data are available for customized subscription download, to suit various in-house molecular biology patent information needs, or can be searched directly via the world's premier Sci-Tech online information service STN® International.
We will be available at the PIUG NE Meeting to discuss this and other new features of the USGENE database with both our current and potential new subscription customers.
Information about USGENE in-house subscriptions is available at: http://www.sequencebase.com/data-subscriptions-sequences e-Seminars Two Dates: June 10, 2008 and June 17, 2008 Designed for new and existing users, this e-Seminar is designed to demonstrate how the features of command line searching, combined with the addition of new USGENE content, make STN an indispensible resource for effective freedom-to-operate, prior art, validity and infringement patent sequence searches. Link to e-Seminar slides (PDF) New sequence search interaction to refine answer sets on STN May 25, 2008 Enhanced capabilities for refining homology sequence search answer sets have been implemented in USGENE on STN. Previously it was possible to choose the number of answers from a sequence search to be kept for further processing. Now an alternative option of minimum percentage of the homology query self score value may be applied as the chosen cut-off point, providing for greater flexibility and improved user-interaction.
